Membership

Like all students at any Swedish university, students at SLU have to be members of a students’ union. The compulsory membership applies for students in basic educational programmes as well as for postgraduate students.

You can join Ultuna Students' Union (ULS) by registering at the union; during the semesters the office is open weekdays 12.15- 13.00 and Tuesdays 16.00-18.00.  Bring your letter of acceptance and identification. It is also possible to fill in the registration form (Membership form or membership form for PhD students and guest scientists) and send it to us by fax or e-mail together with copies of the acceptance letter and your identification (such as your passport). The bill for the semester fee will then be sent to you by regular mail. This fee is compulsory and must be paid for every semester in order to get your degree.

A few weeks after we have received your payment a membership card will be sent to you. The card will grant you student discounts, among these are discounts at SJ and SAS (travel companies). The membership card is a white/grey plastic card called Mecenat and has “Ultuna Studentkår” printed on it.

When you’ve finished your studies and apply for a degree you’ll need a certificate for discharge of debt from the union. The certificate shows that you have paid the union fee every semester. You can apply for the certificate at the students’ union or fill in this form

If you have any questions about the union fee, the certificate for discharge of debt, membership cards, joining the union etc. please contact the students’ union registrar’s office.

Please notify ULS if you change your address!

The Students' Union

As a member of ULS you are welcome to use all the union facilities such as computers, microwave ovens, library and daily and weekly papers. You will also receive the union paper Ultunesaren and the yearbook Avelskalendern. The students’ union and its organisations arrange lots of activities, among these are traditional dinners, student theatres, international activities and choirs. The union has a café; FiQ, that is open Tuesdays 17.00-19.00 in the upper floor of the union. All members are automatically members of ULS IF, our sports organisation. You have access to the sport facilities: a sports hall, a gym, a soccer-field etc.

One of the most important responsibilities of the students’ union is to represent the members towards the university and the departments and to work in the best interest of the students. Through the students’ union you can make your voice heard so that the content and quality of the educations is improved continuously. Student representatives, appointed by ULS, sit in preparing and deciding organs at different levels at the university. If decisions are made at university level that affects our education, we have the right to be a part of the decision making.
